Friday Night Services and Dinner!

Hillel proudly holds Shabbat services during the Fall & Spring semesters. Services begin at 7PM and are student led, and cater to a diverse community of Jewish students and faculty. The services reflect the leader’s style and encompass a wide range of camp, youth group and synagogue experiences. Hillel uses the Likrat Shabbat Siddur for its wide use of transliterations and good English translations. Services last 30 – 45 minutes and always followed by Kiddush and Motzie in the Dining room and a full home cooked meal. We always welcome students who are looking for some matzah ball soup and community on Friday nights!

Holiday Services

Hillel provides services and programs for all Jewish holidays throughout the academic year. Along with religious services for the High Holy Days, Hillel offers dinners for Erev Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and a Break-the-Fast at the conclusion of Yom Kippur. During Passover, Hillel provides multiple Seders and offers a kosher-for-Passover meal plan of lunches and dinners the entire week. We also have meals and services for all recognized major holidays, and a full Tu-B’shvat seder for the students.

Purdue’s Religious Observance Policy

The University values a community with diverse backgrounds and traditions and recognizes that conflicts between regularly scheduled curricular activities and religious observances of some members of our community can arise. Instructors are encouraged to cooperate with students in dealing with work missed due to absences resulting from participation in religious observances.

Students requesting special consideration in scheduling are encouraged to make this known to instructors well in advance, minimize the length of the absence, and be flexible in arranging alternative times to complete any assignments they might miss. Students holding the opinion that they have wrongly been denied an excused absence or the opportunity to make up missed work due to an absence for a religious observance should contact the head of the department offering the course to attempt to resolve the conflict.
